Counselor's Core Curriculum​

Counselors in Georgia have a required curriculum they must present to students.  This is the BRIDGE Law (Building Resourceful Individuals  to Develop Georgia's Economy)

6th Grade students will learn that their interests have a relationship with possible careers

 

7th Grade  students will complete a career interest inventory to gain a better understanding of career clusters so they may explore careers that have interest in.

 

8th Grade  students will receive their emerging, top 3 talent themes and learn how they can leverage their strengths in pursuit of their aspirations.

8th Grade students will also complete their "Individualized Graduation Plan" and learn about the differences in high school and how to be successful.

Indirect Services​
Indirect services are those services that assist student success by collaborating with parents and teachers in ways that support student growth.

Responsive Services
Counselors are uniquely trained and qualified to help students understand and deal with personal issues or struggles.  We can work with students individually and in small group settings.  We respond to crisis situations and support those students in crisis.

**While we love working with students individually, we are not in a position to provide any long-term therapy.  We have a great coalition of therapists in our area and are happy to make a referral or provide parents with information for those therapists.

​Independent Student Planning
Counselors help students develop personal, academic, and career goals.  Counselors assist students in meeting those goals and help to remove obstacles to their learning.



How to Make an Appointment with your Counselor

​

Awtrey counselors have offices in the grade level areas where students have the greatest access to services. 

  • Students that would like to meet with a counselor may stop by during class change, ask a teacher to email the counselor, complete a "request to see a counselor" form and leave it under the counselor's door.  

  • Parents that would like to speak to a counselor may email or call the counselor.  Many times, email is the fastest way to make a connection.

  • We ask that conferences and meetings begin after 9:45 and before 3:00.  We have various responsibilities around the school and we want to be able to give parents and students our complete attention.
